Speed Dating Anyone?

I have no desire to try this but to each his own. Some people get a kick out of this. Has anyone tried it? Maybe you'll find your soulmate there right? You never know.

Speed dating events are generally organized with a moderator leading the group; your role is to simply show up and have a good time! Since everyone is there for the same reason, there are no pressures and you're free to move on to another date in a short amount of time.
Unfamiliar with the exciting world of speed dating? Here's a brief overview:
  1. Singles are invited to attend meetings at a disclosed location in your city.
  2. Each speed dating event can be catered to your needs depending on your age group or demographic. This specifically ensures that you meet singles similar to you the first time around. It may be fast, but it should also be efficient!
  3. A number of rounds are set depending on how many singles there are and each is given a few minutes to meet and socialize with a possible single. This one on one time provides singles with a clear indication of compatibility right from the get go.
  4. Speed dating events are great because they are pressure free and there is no obligation. If you are not “clicking” with someone at first, just wait a few minutes and a new opportunity is right around the corner.
Here is a video of a speed dating event in Canada. Hmmmm....very interesting.

Fragrances

Okay you asked for it. You've got it! Here is my list of some of the best daytime/economical fragrances. The last two can also be evening fragrances.

Clinique Happy Heart
A wealth of flowers. A hint of warmth. A deepening of emotions. Rich floral fragrance captivates the senses with a heart of water hyacinth, brightened with mandarin and blond woods. Wear it and have a happy heart.

Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue
A stunning perfume, overwhelming and irresistible like the joy of living. Surprising and colored: the liveliness of Sicilian citron, the happiness of Granny Smith apple, the spontaneity of bluebells. Feminine and resolute: the intensity of jasmine, the freshness of bamboo, the charm of white rose.

Dior J'ador
The incarnation of absolute femininity in an opulent fruity-floral bouquet. J’adore takes flight with a fresh accord of bergamot, opening into a vibrant armful of roses with a delicate jasmine drydown. The sensual, curvaceous lines of its amphora bottle make this a legendary perfume.

Calvin Klein Euphoria
mysterious. provocative. exciting. the fantasy and surprise of the black orchid creates a captivating oriental fragrance that contrasts exotic fruits, seductive florals and a rich, creamy signature.

If you know of other fragrances that smell great but won't "break the bank" please add them. In the mean time, this is the commercial that made me try J'ador in the first place.  I wanted to walk and take my close off as freely as she did! LOL!

A reader asked for my advice.....

My boyfriend and I have been dating for six months. Everything was magical in the beginning but now it has changed a bit. Things are not as exciting and we don't spend as much time together... this makes me wonder if this is it for me... or am I missing out on something... some how I am longing for something more. I think things may have changed when we started living together.. he noticed that I don't cook or clean and that may have been a turn off for him. We are both great people but I don't know if we are meant for each other.

Reply:
Hey thanks for sending me this and allowing me into your life. :)  First of all you can't just jump ship at the first sign of trouble. You and your boyfriend need to sit down and have a long talk about the way that things are going and where they are going. If you don't cook and clean then why not start? Let him see that you are making an effort. One night a week you guys should have a date night. You don't necessarily have to go out just spend time together. You have to continue to get to know each other because you are constantly growing. Think about those things that caused you to fall in love with him in the first place and maybe it will rekindle some old feelings. And just so you know, all relationships seem magical in the beginning. They're supposed to! All that wooing is what makes dating so much fun.  At the start of the relationship everyone puts their best foot forward. What you did to get him you need to keep doing to keep him and he should be doing the same.  Are you willing to fight for your relationship? If you are wondering if you are missing out on something then that's a major issue. Before you let your mind wonder into of all kinds of thoughts that you shouldn't be having, sit down and have a talk with your boyfriend. I pray that it all works out for the better.

A Golden Globe Hot Mess!

Now I consider myself to be pretty fashionesque. I don't have to be a fashion designer or fashion magazine editor to know what's hot and what's not. I am very disappointed with many of the gown choices for the Golden Globe awards. What the heck were they thinking?! There were those that received A and B grades for their ensembles by critics but I think this is the worst they have looked!

Angelina:
What the heck is that?!  I am a big Angelina fan and she is usually totally on point. I guess she was trying to channel her inner Joan Crawford.

Eva looked like a mermaid and Halle looked like she need a whip and chains. Anne Hathaway looked like a disco ball. Julianne Moore looked like she twisted a pink sheet around her. It wasn't the dress but the blunt cut bangs that ruined Sandra Bullock's look. An out of the face up do would have done the dress justice. I was even shocked by Claire Danes! Her gown was just too plain. Claire Danes is my girl! She wears some of the best dresses for a fit body but I don't know what happened there. So you guys choose...hot or a hot mess!

Seriously though, there wasn't one gown that took my breath away or made me say "wow" or "that's hot!" I have to say, although critics don't agree, that Jennifer Lopez's dress was tasteful and really showed all of the hard work that she has put into her new figure.

Look at these iconic gowns of years past and don't forget about the hair and accessories.  These girls did it and did it well. The looks were hot! Charlize Theron tore up the catwalk!

Girl Night Movies

I may be into fitness but I'm still a girly girl. Any movie where the opening scenes involve fashion and shoes is usually alright with me! LOL! Here is my list of movies for girls night:
The Devil Wears Prada
Based on the hilarious best-selling novel, this sinfully funny movie starring Academy Award(r) winner Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway is "sensationally entertaining in every way" (maxim). As assistant to impossibly demanding New York fashion magazine editor Miranda Priestly (Streep), young Andy Sachs (Hathaway) has landed a job that "a million girls would die for." Unfortunately, her heaven-sent appointment as Miranda's personal whipping girl just might be the death of her!

The Women- this one has an all girl cast! Girl Power!
Based on Clare Boothe Luce's Broadway success and the hit 1939 movie, this sparkling update (from Murphy Brown creator Diane English) set in Manhattan and featuring an all-star, all-female cast says a lot about what it means to be today's woman, and all of its funny. Beautiful, smart, accomplished Mary Haines (Meg Ryan) discovers her husband is cheating on her. It's a time when friends are needed, so Mary's gal pals (Annette Bening, Jada Pinkett Smith and Debra Messing) and mother (Candice Bergen) rally round with advice, cocktails and shopping. The Wife vs. the Other Woman (Eva Mendes): sharpen your claws for a timeless and wonderfully witty battle.

Sex In The City (the first one)
For too long, Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker) had been looking for love in all the wrong places…but in all the right shoes. In this much anticipated movie event, Carrie, Samantha (Kim Cattrall), Charlotte (Kristin Davis) and Miranda (Cynthia Nixon) are back, four years after the hit TV series ended. As they continue to juggle career, relationships, motherhood and life in Manhattan, the girls realize that more than ever, true friendship never goes out of style.

In Her Shoes
Cameron Diaz, Toni Collette and Shirley MacLaine "all deserve Oscars®"(WCBC-TV) for their hilarious and moving performances in "the most rewarding family comedy since Terms of Endearment." (New York Magazine) Flirty, flaky party girl Maggie (Diaz) and plain, dependable lawyer Rose (Collette) are sisters, best friends and bitter rivals who seem to have only two things in common: DNA and size 8 1/2 feet. Only when their love-hate relationship veers towards the hate end of the spectrum do they accidentally discover they also share a long-lost grandmother (MacLaine) who enriches their lives and helps them make peace with each other—and themselves!

Okay now your ready so get some munchies and drinks together, invite the girls over and enjoy!

How Do You Talk?

Have you ever noticed all the different ways that people speak....the words that they use? Some have made up their own words or have their own way of saying things. I happen to love it because I think that the way that we all have different personalities is so awesome. I have a friend that does not curse but uses the words "friggin, flippin, or freakin" instead and with her New York accent it just cracks me up. I was writing a paper recently and when I proof read it I noticed that my writing skills seemed to mimic a couple of the books that I love so much, The Great Gadsby and Death of A Salesman. Wow, I wonder if I talk like it too.  LOL! There are those, however that I try to avoid. I stay away from people who talk too much. From my experience people who talk too much have serious issues. Not that we all don't have issues. But they tend to be on "some other stuff." When I'm around someone who talks too much I tend to just sit and listen. The more they talk the more I learn. You can learn so much about a person if you just listen. They don't even notice that you don't get a word in edgewise. These are the people that you can be on the phone with and walk away and come back and they never know you left! That's a one sided friendship. Then there are those who are carrying on a conversation with you and whatever issue you bring up they have to tell you about when they went through the same thing. Somehow it always becomes about them. On the other hand, I have friends that I haven't talked to in quite a while because they live out of state. We can go months without talking but when we do we don't miss a beat. We pick back up like we see each other every day. It's so nice when you can find a person to talk to where you both can talk and you both can listen and you can joke and have fun and encourage each other or meet what ever need the conversation has....especially when you know that the conversation is going to stay between the two of you if necessary.

Say it like you mean it! Oooaah Oooah!

Ha! That's from the Wendy Williams show theme song. It gets me dancing every time I hear it. Have you seen the show?! I think it's one of the best talk shows to come about in a long time. For me it's refreshing...a break away from all the deep/serious shows. It has celebrity gossip for those who are interested in the latest info, it has great guests and it's fun and lighthearted. It's more like what talk shows used to be like in the 80's but with upgrades. :) Wendy Williams is hilarious! Oh my gosh, today she pulled a note from under her wig or weave or whatever she wears. It was so funny! She has a way of saying things that really cracks me up. I have to say that I was really impressed with Weight Watchers new points system. They were on her show today and showed the meals that you could eat in a given day. It was very impressive. They have really made some advances in their knowledge of proteins, fiber and complex carbohydrates. There was a young lady who lost 200 pounds over a three year period using this system. When they showed what she eats it seemed like so much food but it was all very healthy and in the right combinations and proportions. It really showed that you don't have to starve yourself in order to lose weight. They are showing you how to do it the healthy way which will allow you to keep the pounds off.

Bottled Water

Has everyone been paying attention to the latest news on bottled water? I'm not sure that we can call it the latest news because I've noticed that researchers have been trying to tell us the same things about bottled water for the past 5 to 7 years. News has it that your bottled water may be no different than your tap water. I stopped purchasing bottled water when I read an article stating that you can save $300 a year if you stop purchasing bottled water and use a filter system. So I purchased one of those Brita filter pitchers. I calculated and found that I saved $240 last year. Many of the bottled waters are not from the source that they are reported to be from. Glacier water is not from a glacier. It's from Greeneville, Tennessee.  There is no evidence that bottled water is healthier than tap water. "Vitamins, color, herbs, protein, and all the other additions to water are a marketing ploy," says Marion Nestle, Ph.D., professor of nutrition studies at New York University. The vitamins added to water are not enough to make any nutritional difference.

The bottled water industry is a billion dollar business. Coke and Pepsi got into the business in order to compensate for their decreased soda sales. It is estimated that about 25% of the bottled waters consumed in the U.S. come from municipal water supplies. That includes your Dasani (Coke product) and your Aquafina (Pepsi product). Most go through significant processing such as reverse osmosis, deionization, activated carbon filtration and other treatments.  Read the label carefully. If it is packaged as "purified" or "drinking water," chances are it came from a municipal water supply, and unless the water has been substantially altered, it must state on the label that the water comes from a municipal source.

Ever wonder why your bottled water has a date on it? The longer the water has been in the plastic container, the more chance that substances have been released into the water from the plastic. So if you're going to purchase bottled water, make sure that the date on the the bottle is closest to the date of purchase. If the date is 6 months out, that means that water has been sitting in that bottle for a long time.

Hmmmmm....New Years Resolution

Happy new year! Okay its resolution season! My resolution for this year will be to stop drinking soda. Ha! Just kidding. I don't drink soda. LOL! What I tend to do is go over my short and long term goals and then look back over the past year and determine where I missed the mark in keeping myself headed in the right direction. I have various goals including physical, monetary, mental and spiritual. In going back over the past year I realize that I spent too much money on things that I could have done without. I also found that I didn't stay focused throughout the year. I didn't take a vacation in 2010 so that's definitely necessary for 2011. I did pretty good on fitness and nutrition last year.....that is until the holidays came. :) I think that my main focus this year will be not allowing myself to worry about things that I have no control over. It's such a waste of time and energy. I also have to do much better with my savings account. When I wrote down all the things that I did accomplish in 2010. I was pretty impressed.  I had accomplished much more than the year before. Look, don't be like everyone else and make resolutions that you can't possibly stick to. Set reasonable goals and have someone that can  hold you accountable if necessary. Most people only stick to their resolution for 2 weeks. Lets encourage each other. I decree that 2011 is going to be a great year!
